Personal emergency response system technology is heading in the direction of giving users significantly more protection than merely summoning assistance. Now a manufacturer has proposed to make a PERS unit that monitors your heart and notifies the central station in the event of a heart problem.
Using GPS to Monitor Alzheimer’s Patients

You’ve heard of Alzheimer’s patients taking unauthorized walks, endangering themselves with all manner of hazards. Brickhouse Security blog has proposed a possible solution to the problem of wandering Alzheimer’s patients: have them wear a GPS device.
The idea is to get shoes, for example, equipped with a GPS device to keep track of where the wearer is. The GPS device could be tracked online or used to show police or rescue personnel where the person is.
Technology is making the lives of dishonest people and those with violent intent a lot more difficult. They’re getting caught a lot more often. One hopes that this will have a positive impact on future crime rates, as has been reported in some places already.
Ubiquitous video and GPS technology are making it a lot more likely that crimes will be recorded, reported, and proved; the criminals who perpetrate these crimes are a lot more likely to be discovered and convicted because their actions, faces, and voices are being recorded. DNA evidence is being discovered and used.
That being the case, it seems that some simple and relatively inexpensive steps could be taken to protect the average homeowner (or car owner) from casual theft.
Take the case of the missing Ford Explorer recently reported by BrickHouse Security (see the link below).
