Security for you and your home through wireless technology

Laurie Orlov has called for four features that ought to be incorporated in all PERS products in the future: portability (more than 400 feet from the base), long battery life, simplicity, and passivity.

When Laurie says “passive,” she means that the PERS device the user has will automatically notify the central station of a fall even if the user cannot — or neglects to — push the panic button. A new PERS product promises to do just that.

According to the following article, one in three elders will experience a fall each year … but there may be some help available in the near future.  Here is an interesting announcement about a product that may enable notifications to be sent to caregivers without the user having to even push a button.  The technology automatically senses when the user has fallen and sends out a notification automatically, in some cases with video of the incident.  While this appears to be new, and problems may need to be ironed out, this is something we will be keeping our eyes on.

Lifesight Announces Automated Fall Detection Services’ Public Trial Stage

Lifesight offers that caregivers can now be immediately notified when an elder falls to the ground by receiving emergency alerts about falls from visual sensors located where falls are most likely to occur, like the bedroom and bathroom.

Private alerts are sent to caregivers with text only information like time of fall and instructions for the caregiver. Similarly, when privacy is not required, the caregiver or nurse would receive an alert including time of fall and an image of the event that triggered the alert. The benefit here is that the caregiver can visually verify the possible fall and call for help immediately.

This immediate fall notification system is able to notify caregivers within moments after a falls occurs, automatically.
